The developer of  Arabic language operating system for computers breathed his last

Kuwaiti tech entrepreneur Mohammad Abdul Rahman Al-Sherekh, the first person to develop an Arabic-language operating system for computers, has died. (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaiji Rajeun). He was 82 years old at the time of his demise. The King of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Makhdoom, expressed deep grief over the death of the founder of Shokhar Software Company. Source: Saudi Gazette and Gulf News .

Also, Kuwait's National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters X-A said the Minister of Information and Culture expressed deep grief over the death of Arabic software developer Mohammad Al-Sherekh. Abdul Rahman Badah Al-Mutairi, chairman of the National Council of Culture, Arts and Literature, and the council's leaders and employees expressed their condolences to Al-Sherekh's family and relatives.

By the 1980s, most computers were designed only for English speakers, creating a barrier for those who spoke other languages. Al-Sherekh saw this as a challenge and continued research to find a solution.

After years of research, he created the first Arabic language interface for computers.

In 1980 he founded the Al-Alamiya Group, headquartered in Kuwait; in 1982 he founded Shakhar Software Company, which emerged as a pioneer in research and development in Arabic-language processing.

Al-Sherekh's company has acquired several patents related to the use of Arabic in computers. SSC is the only company in the Middle East North Africa region to hold three US patents in this field.

In 1986, his company became the Arabic language service provider for Microsoft.

Al-Sherekh's work has not only facilitated communication and collaboration in the Arab world but also inspired a new generation of technologists to push the boundaries of linguistic diversity in technology.

In 2021, he was awarded the prestigious King Faisal International Award for outstanding contributions to Islam, Islamic studies, Arabic language and literature, medicine and science.

Al-Sherekh received a state award in 2018 from Kuwait's National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters. Earlier he received World Summit Awards and E-Inclusion Award in 2007.

In 2002, he won the Arabian Business e-Visionary of the Year Award. In 1998, it received the 'Best Product' award at the COMDEX exhibition.
